Grandma’s Archive
2019
COLLAGE
This body of work is a playful yet personal exploration of memory, familial relationships, and the enduring spirit of the Scottish countryside. The project began with a physical catalyst: an inherited archive of postcards belonging to the artists grandma, each card a vessel of her lived geography.
Through the tactile process of analogue collage, they physically intervene in these historical artefacts. By cutting, removing, and layering new elements, the artist actively disrupts and reshapes the narrative of their grandma’s life. This selective alteration mirrors the erratic nature of human memory: how we forget, how we romanticise, and how we construct identity over time.
